We’ve closed off submissions for issue #5 and will send out decisions over the next few weeks. If you sent work to us and don’t hear back in the next month, feel free to drop us an email. The issue is being edited by Chicago based poet and academic, David Gardiner and we hope to publish it sometime in May.

Guest Editor for Issue #5

The Burning Bush 2 is pleased to announce that Chicago poet, professor and critic David Gardiner will be the guest editor for issue #5. David is vastly experienced, not only as an editor but as a scholar and teacher of poetry and we’re really excited to have him at the helm for our next edition.

David Gardiner is a native of Chicago. Since 1989, when he attended University College Galway, he has spent probably far too much time in Ireland, teaching at the University of Ulster and also at Trinity College Dublin. While teaching Irish studies at Creighton University in Nebraska, he was the founding editor of An Sionnach: A Journal of Literature, Culture, and the Arts (Creighton University Press) and was also Director of Creighton University Press.

His first collection of poetry, Downstate, was published by Salmon Poetry in 2009. He is working on a new collection and currently occupies the city of broad shoulders.

Submissions for issue #5 of The Burning Bush 2 are now open. Please send no more than 4 poems or 2 pieces of flash fiction to the usual address. No attachments please.

The Burning Bush 2 presents Patrick Chapman, Christodoulos Makris and Kevin Graham at the Irish Writers Centre, on Thursday 27th September.

Admission is free and doors open at 7:30pm.

Our featured poets will be preceded by an open mic: the first six people to sign up on the night get a slot.

Patrick, Christodoulos and Kevin have all featured in The Burning Bush 2 magazine. Check out issues our first three issues on this site.

Patrick Chapman is an Irish poet, writer and screenwriter, born in 1968. His poetry collections include Jazztown, (Raven Arts Press, 1991), The New Pornography (Salmon Poetry, 1996), Breaking Hearts And Traffic Lights (Salmon Poetry, 2007), A Shopping Mall on Mars, (BlazeVOX, 2008) & The Darwin Vampires, (Salmon Poetry, 2010). His story collection, The Wow Signal (Bluechrome) was published in 2007. His new and selected poems will be published by Salmon later this year. You can find him at www.patrickchapman.net

Christodoulos Makris is the author of the collection Spitting Out the Mother Tongue (Wurm Press, 2011), the chapbook Round the Clock (Wurm Press, 2009) and the chapbook / artist’s book, Muses Walk(yes, but is it poetry, 2012). He lives in Dublin.

Kevin Graham lives and works in Dublin. His poetry has appeared in Poetry Ireland Review, Crannóg, The Shop, Southword, The Moth and others. He was chosen to participate in this year’s Poetry Ireland Introduction Series.

The Burning Bush 2 is Getting Busy

We’ve lots coming up over the next few months at the Burning Bush 2. First up, we’re still accepting subs for issue number 4, due out early November. In addition to poetry, we’re also looking for flash fiction, reviews and literary essays. Check out our submissions guidelines and send in your work. We’ll get back to you after October 1st.

Also in number 4, we will introduce a series of interviews with writers, editors and translators. We hope to make this a regular feature and have some great people lined up.

The first Burning Bush 2 reading will take place in the Irish Writers Centre on August 27th. It’s on around 19:30 and the line-up includes poets Christodoulos Makris and Kevin Graham. There will also be an open mic for the first 6 people to sign up on the night. There will probably be wine.

Finally, from issue 5 on, we will publish Burning Bush 2 twice a year. Dates for submissions will be announced shortly. We also have a guest editor lined up. We’ll post all the details once issue 4 is out.

Issue Number Three

We’re putting issue number three of the Burning Bush 2 together at the moment and, hopefully, it will be out before the end of July. Once we have issue three online, we’re going to take a break for the summer before we start work on our fourth issue (scheduled for November / December). So, any submissions we receive over the next couple of months probably won’t get a response until the autumn. If you can wait that long, by all means feel free to send your work in – our submissions inbox will remain open throughout the summer.

Call for Submissions

The Burning Bush 2 is now accepting submissions for our third issue, due in July. In #3 we will feature new and emerging poets from Dublin and are especially interested in writers who are working towards a first collection or have recently published a first collection. If you think you fit the bill and would like to have your work considered, please send us no more than 4 poems in the body of an email to burningbushrevival@gmail.com. The closing date for receipt of submissions is 10th June.

During this period, we will, of course, also accept submissions from all other geographic locations. Before sending your work, we recommend that you check out the guidelines and also have a read of issues one and two to get a feel for the magazine.
